Florida Gators Basketball: Kasey Hill Is Coming Into His Own

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:20 p.m. ET

Former five-star point guard Kasey Hill struggled to start his college career, but has finally started to play well for the Florida Gators.Kasey Hill was a five-star point guard coming out Montverde Academy in 2013 and the second-ranked point guard in his class. Holding offers from six schools besides Florida, including Kentucky, the Florida native stayed home.Even after being heavily recruited, he didn’t start off in the main rotation for the Gators with Michael Frazier and Scottie Wilbekin leading the way. Unfortunately, in his freshman season, the Gators would lose in the Final Four. When it comes to team and individual success, Hill hasn’t experienced either with the Gators. He made the Final Four in 2013-14, but he was not largely involved. Since then, the Gators have had two below-average seasons and failed to make the NCAA Tournament in both. One thing that has happened is an improvement from Hill. Since his freshman year, Hill has developed into a quality starter. He hasn’t lived up to his star-caliber recruitment ranking, but he has shown flashes of it.Under Mike White, Hill has averaged 9.2 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 rebonds per game, but the thing he’s really improved this season is his efficiency. A career 38.9 percent shooter before this season, he has kicked that up to 42.7 percent in 2016-17.In White’s reign, Hill’s metrics have also gone up consistently. Not only that, but to start his current senior campaign, he’s at career highs in points, assists, and rebounds per game. Hill hasn’t been great, far from it actually, but instead of letting it get to him, he has consistently improved every season. He’s currently the anchor of the best Florida Gators team since 2013-2014.Will he end up on an NBA roster? That’s another question, but you can’t deny he’s finally playing well.Must Read: Donovan Peoples-Jones Recruiting UpdateThe Gators will take on unranked Charlotte this Saturday.
