Rakim Sanders scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Fairfield over Canisius 68-59 on Sunday for its eighth straight win in the series.

Derek Needham also had 19 points for the Stags (5-4, 2-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who held the Golden Griffins to 39.2 percent shooting (20 of 51).

Fairfield scored 23 points off 18 turnovers, and continued its strong defensive play, holding opponents to 63.2 points per game coming in.

Canisius (1-5, 0-2) cut it to 56-53 on Reggie Groves' free throw with 7:41. But Fairfield turned two turnovers into four points to pull away 60-53 on Needham's jumper with 5:13 left.

Harold Washington scored 24 points for Canisius and Chris Manhertz had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Alshawn Hymes added 11 points for the Golden Griffins, who outrebounded Fairfield 32-28, and lost their fourth in a row.
