Evansville sails by Indiana State, 89-78

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) D.J. Balentine scored 18 points and dished out six assists to lead Evansville to an 89-78 victory over Indiana St on Tuesday night.

Blake Simmons added 14 points and Egidijus Mockevicius finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Purple Aces (16-5, 6-3 Missouri Valley Conference), who have won four of their last five and are 12-0 this season when leading at halftime. For Mockevicius, it was his 16th double-double in 21 games this season.

Offensively, Evansville shot 53.2 percent from the field, building on its overall percentage of 49.8 percent, which ranks sixth nationally.

The Purple Aces had a 10-2 run early in the second half to extend their lead to double figures. Indiana State (10-11, 6-3) cut the lead to six late, but the deficit was too much.

Brenton Scott's 20 points and seven rebounds led the Sycamores. Devonte Brown added 18 points and seven assists.
