Enechionyia sparks Samford past UMKC 64-55

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Nnamdi Enechionyia hit five 3-pointers, finished with a career-high 22 points and blocked five shots as Samford defeated Missouri-Kansas City 64-55 on Sunday in the EA Sports Maui Invitational consolation game.

The Bulldogs (2-3) shot 53.7 percent from the field, sparked by 7-of-8 shooting from Enechionyia. Marcus Johnson had 11 points and Jamal Shabazz added eight with seven rebounds.

Enechionyia hit three free throws, a jumper and a 3-pointer to give Samford an early 11-0 lead. Enechionyia hit three more from deep as the Bulldogs led by as much as 14 in the first half.

UMKC (2-3) pulled within five early in the second half, but another trey by Enechionyia along with two baskets by Brandon Hayman pushed the lead back to 10 at the midway mark. The Kangaroos never threatened the rest of the way.

Martez Harrison led UMKC with 17 points and five assists.
