DENVER (AP) The University of Denver has fired Joe Scott after a nine-year run as head coach.

Scott was 146-132 since being brought in to run the basketball program in 2007. Peg Bradley-Doppes, the vice chancellor for athletics and recreation, said Friday a coaching search will begin immediately.

Prior to Denver, Scott has also coached at Princeton and Air Force.

In a news release, Bradley-Doppes said that ''at this juncture we feel the time is right to make a change in the direction of the program and we look forward to entering a new, exciting era for the program with a dynamic new head coach at the helm.''
