Casey Walker scored 20 points and Marques Oliver had a double-double as Delaware State defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore 64-53 on Saturday night in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Hornets (3-3) outscored the Hawks 37-26 in the second half, breaking a 27-27 tie at the break. Delaware State shot 56.5 percent from the field in the second half (13 of 23), while holding the Hawks to just 8-of-21 shooting in the period (38.1 percent).

Delaware State scored 20 points off 15 Maryland-Eastern Shore turnovers and scored 26 points in the paint in the game.

Oliver had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Desi Washington added 16 points for the Hornets. Jay Threatt had 10 steals for Delaware State.

Hillary Haley led the Hawks (2-5) with 16 points. Dishawn Bradshaw chipped in 12 points and Mark Robertson added 11 for Maryland-Eastern Shore.
