Creighton hands reeling DePaul its fifth straight defeat
James Milliken scored 18 points, helping coach Greg McDermott win his 400th game as Creighton beat DePaul 75-62 on Tuesday night.
Creighton led by as many as 13 in the first half, but DePaul roared back in the second frame, cutting its deficit to two on a Forrest Robinson 3-pointer with 6:57 left. That turned out to be the Blue Demons' last gasp, however. The Bluejays strung together a 14-6 scoring stretch over the next 5:27, highlighted by a Milliken jumper and an Austin Chatman 3-pointer, to extend their lead back to 10 to put the game away.
Chatman added 12 points for the Bluejays (13-15, 4-11 Big East), who have won 27 straight when scoring 70 or more points including 9-0 this season.
Robinson led DePaul (12-17, 6-10) with 14 points. The Blue Demons have lost five straight and seven of eight.
McDermott is 400-248 in his 21st season as a head coach. His son Doug McDermott, the 2014 National Player of the Year and currently a rookie with the Chicago Bulls, was in attendance.
