Comer, FGCU beat Furman 83-78

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) Brett Comer converted a three-point play with 1:34 left to help Florida Gulf Coast edge Furman 83-78 on Friday night.

Comer put the Eagles (9-2) up six before Stephen Croone pulled Furman (2-7) back to 79-76 on a 3-pointer. Comer sank his free throws and Julian DeBose added two more to close out the win.

FGCU led 76-64 on DeBose's 3-pointer with 2:54 left, but the Paladins scored nine straight to pull within three.

The Eagles took control midway through the second half with a 15-5 run capped by Bernard Thompson's 3-pointer with 5:34 to play.

Comer finished with 19 points and 10 assists, DeBose added 14 points and Demetris Morant scored 13.

Devin Sibley had 20 points, Croone scored 18 and Geoff Beans added 16 for Furman. Sibley was 3 of 4 from long distance but the rest of the Paladins were 3 of 19.
