Alec Burks scored 20 points to lead Colorado to an 88-80 win over Idaho State in Tad Boyle's debut as the Buffaloes' coach on Friday night.
Levi Knutson and Cory Higgins each scored 16 points for Colorado while Marcus Relphorde had 12.
Broderick Gilchrest scored a career-high 39 points for the Bengals, keeping his team close for most of the game.
Gilchrest had 20 points at halftime and reached 30 early in the second period but was silent for a long stretch, allowing the Buffaloes to take control.

Colorado shot 48 percent in the second half and sank 17 of 18 free throws.
Colorado's Andre Roberson pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Boyle replaced Jeff Bzdelik, who left Colorado to become the coach at Wake Forest.
