Chicago St. 64, Georgia Southern 59

Jonathon Montgomery scored 17 points off the bench and Chicago State ran off the game's final 10 points to overtake Georgia Southern 64-59 on Friday at the South Padre Island Invitational.

Carl Montgomery added 11 points and Hajji Martin pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and hit the two free throws that gave the Cougars (2-4) the lead for good at 60-59 with 45 seconds left.

Ben Drayton and Rory Spencer led the Eagles (2-4) with 13 points apiece. Jelani Hewitt scored 11 and Eric Ferguson 10.

Chicago State, which broke a four-game losing streak, trailed 55-47 with 5:56 left. Marvin Baynham's layup put Georgia Southern ahead 59-54 with 3:30 left, but those were the last points the Eagles scored.

The Cougars found an advantage from 3-point range, sinking 7 of 19 (36.8 percent) to 4 of 15 (26.7 percent) for the Eagles.

Georgia Southern led 36-24 at intermission.
