Omar Wattad's 3-pointer with 4:05 remaining gave Chattanooga its first lead of the second half and the Mocs held on to defeat Marshall 69-68 on Saturday night.

Layups by Jeremy Saffore twice increased the lead to three points for the Mocs (2-2), but the Thundering Herd (2-1) answered the first with a dunk by Nigel Spikes and the second with a Tirrell Baines layup to get within 69-68 with 51 seconds left.

Keegan Bell missed a 3-pointer for Chattanooga with 20 seconds left and Baines got the rebound, but Marshall was unable to score again. Officials ruled that DeAndre Kane's layup, which would have given the Thundering Herd the victory, came after time had expired.

Chris Early scored 13 points, Bell 12 and Wattad 11 to lead Chattanooga, which scored the game's first six points, then fell behind by 10 and led 36-35 at halftime. There were eight lead changes and five ties in the game.
