Charlotte hangs on for 80-72 win over Appalachian State
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Jon Davis scored 19 points, Anthony Vanhook added 14 more and Charlotte rolled to an 80-72 win over Appalachian State on Monday night.
Charlotte (4-2) never trailed but had to hold off a late Appalachian State rally that cut a 13-point margin to just four, 76-72, on a free throw from Ronshad Shabazz with 2:09 to play.
Davis dropped in a layup at the other end to stretch Charlotte's advantage back to six and then sank a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to clinch it.
Andrien White and Braxton Ogbueze scored 10 points apiece for the 49ers, who shot 57 percent from the field and got 16 assists.
Appalachian State (2-4) was led by Kelvin Robinson's 14 points and seven rebounds. Isaac Johnson had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Shabazz also finished with 12 points and Jake Babic added 11 for the Mountaineers.
