Charlotte 68, Winthrop 57
Jamar Briscoe scored 18 points and led five players in double figures as Charlotte beat Winthrop 68-57 on Tuesday night.
Briscoe scored 13 of his points in the first half, as the 49ers hit 10 of their first 12 field-goal attempts and led 42-18 at halftime.
Charlotte led by as many as 26 in the second half before Winthrop rallied and twice got as close as six points.
Charlotte wound up shooting 44 percent from the field - hitting 18 of 28 in the first half (64.3 percent) and 4 of 22 in the second half (18.2 percent).
The 49ers (4-5) also got 11 points from An'Juan Wilderness and 10 points each from Phil Jones, Derrio Green and Chris Braswell. Jones and Braswell had eight rebounds each.
Winthrop (4-5) got 14 points from Reggie Middleton.
Charlotte played its third straight game without leading scorer Shamari Spears, who remains suspended indefinitely.
