Carlton's double-double helps Howard beat Coppin State 77-60

BALTIMORE (AP) James Carlton scored 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Howard to a 77-60 victory over Coppin State on Saturday.

James Daniel III made 4 of 5 3-point attempts to add 18 points and James Miller scored 10 for the Bison (13-12, 7-4), who are in third place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Carlton has seven double-doubles this season.

Taariq Cephas made 4 of 6 tries from the arc in scoring 18 points with Sterling Smith making 5 of 10 from 3-point range en route to 17 points for the Eagles (5-20, 4-8). Cephas became the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

Howard led 38-31 at halftime and by as many as 20 late. The Bison made 25 of 46 shots for 54.3 percent, 22 of 29 from the free-throw line and had a 40-20 rebounding advantage.
