Campbell hangs on to beat USC-Upstate 67-60

Junard Hartley scored 15 points and Keishawn Mayes added 14 to lead Campbell past South Carolina-Upstate 67-60 on Thursday night in Atlantic Sun play.

The Fighting Camels (6-3, 1-0) led 38-23 at halftime thanks to 17-of-32 shooting (53.1 percent) in the first half and a 22-2 scoring edge in the paint.

Campbell extended its lead to 19, 51-32, on a layup from Mayes with 12:24 to go, but the Spartans went on a 28-12 run to close the margin to three, 63-60, with 1:25 left.

Hartley was 4 of 4 from the free-throw line over the final 27 seconds, helping Campbell earn its first conference win of the season and fourth consecutive victory overall.

Torrey Craig led the Spartans (2-8, 1-1) with 19 points and six rebounds. Josh Chavis added 11 points.

The Fighting Camels dominated play inside, outscoring USC-Upstate 38-18 in the paint and posting a 46-27 rebounding advantage.
