CAA men's basketball tourney moving to Charleston in 2017

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) The Colonial Athletic Association's men's basketball championships are relocating to Charleston.

The league announced Thursday Charleston will host its postseason event from 2017-19. The event will be held at the 11,000-seat North Charleston Coliseum, which organizers said recently underwent $21 million in improvements.

The CAA is finishing a three-year deal to hold its signature basketball event in Baltimore, which hosts for the final time in March. The league said that the bid was from Charleston had unanimous support from the CAA athletic directors.

The College of Charleston left the Southern Conference to join the CAA in 2013. It has previously held the league's baseball championships.

CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager says the move was a chance to show off league basketball in a new market.
