Brandon Davies scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds Saturday night to lift Brigham Young over San Diego 88-52 in the Cougars' West Coast Conference home opener.

The Toreros (5-8, 0-1) scored first, but BYU (12-4, 1-1) went on a 13-0 run.

San Diego pulled within 20-15 on a pair of free throws by Ken Rancifer with 7 minutes left in the first half, but that's as close as the Toreros got.

BYU led by 10 at halftime and quickly bumped it to 16 on a jumper by Noah Hartsock and a four-point play by Brock Zylstra.
