Byron Mulkey scored 17 points and Jarod Oldham made two free throws with 10 seconds left as Buffalo defeated Akron 73-70 on Sunday.

The Bulls (9-6, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) trailed 69-67 with 2:30 to play after Akron's Brett McKnight made two free throws.

Javon McCrea made 1 of 2 free throws to pull Buffalo within one with 2:15 left. Dave Barnett scored the last of his 15 points on a 3-pointer with 1:22 left, giving Buffalo the lead for good at 71-69.

Akron (10-7, 1-2) had three chances to tie in the final minute. Alex Abreu made 1 of 2 free throws to make it 71-70, and after Oldham's free throws accounted for the final margin, Abreu and Brett McClanahan both missed 3-point tries in the final 3 seconds.

McClanahan led Akron with 15 points while McKnight added 12. Nikola Cvetinovic and Darryl Roberts had 10 each.
