Bethune-Cookman 60, NC Central 59
Garrius Holloman hit the game-winning jumper with 6 seconds left, the only points in the game's final 31/2 minutes, to propel Bethune-Cookman past North Carolina Central 60-59 Thursday night in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals.
The fourth-seeded Wildcats (17-16) will play eighth-seeded Hampton in the semifinals on Friday night. The Pirates beat regular-season MEAC champ and tournament top seed Savannah State in its quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday.
Holloman's clinching basket came after N.C. Central's leading scorer Dominique Sutton (16 points) turned the ball over with 19 seconds left. That was Sutton's second giveaway during a span of the game's final 3:39 in which the Eagles didn't score after taking a 59-58 lead on a Ray Willis jumper. The Eagles (17-15) missed three treys during that stretch, while the Wildcats missed four shots and a pair of free throws.
But they connected when it counted in the final seconds.
