Bertone leads Florida Atlantic past UAB 82-71
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) Pablo Bertone scored a career-high 34 points, hitting 13 of 20 from the field, as Florida Atlantic pulled away for an 82-71 win over UAB on Saturday night.
Florida Atlantic (9-15, 4-5 Conference USA) trailed by as many as 12 in the first half but came back to take the lead just more than four minutes into the second.
The Owls later erased a two-point deficit with a 12-2 run, taking a 69-61 lead over UAB (14-9, 3-6) with 3:16 to play.
D'Andre Johnson added 13 points, Kelvin Penn scored 12 and Marquan Botley had 11 for Florida Atlantic, which hit 7 of 16 from 3-point range.
Rod Rucker led UAB with 19 points and Chad Frazier added 18 but went just 5 of 20 from the field. UAB shot 37.7 percent on field goals and lost their third straight game.
