Scott Saunders had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Belmont defeated Austin Peay 77-67 on Wednesday night.
The Bruins relied on strong free-throw shooting, making 25 of 32 with Saunders knocking in 9 of 12. Austin Peay shot only 45.5 percent (10 of 22) from the line.
Belmont broke a 10-10 tie in the first half with a 12-0 run and never trailed again. The Bruins needed only one field goal in the final 3:50 of the game as they made 8 of 10 free throws in that span to seal the win.
Kerron Johnson added 15 points, Drew Hanlen had 13 and Ian Clark 12 for Belmont (8-5), which broke a two-game losing streak.
TyShawn Edmondson scored 20 points, with five 3-pointers, Jerome Clyburn added 12 and Melvin Baker had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Governors (3-10), which had a three-game winning streak snapped.
