Augmon hired as UNLV assistant coach
Stacey Augmon, part of the glory days of UNLV basketball and a key member of the Rebels' 1990 NCAA championship team, is returning to the school as an assistant coach.
Augmon, 42, has been hired by recently appointed head coach Dave Rice, who took over the UNLV program after Lon Kruger was hired by Oklahoma.
Augmon played 15 seasons in the NBA, and spent the last four seasons as assistant coach/player development for the Denver Nuggets. He was a first-team All-American at UNLV as a senior and helped lead the Rebels to the Final Four in 1990 and 1991.
"I am excited about coming back to UNLV," Augmon said in a statement released by the school on Tuesday night. "I am looking forward to working with Coach Rice and the rest of the staff. It will be great to be back in the city where we were part of a dynasty."
Augmon had his No. 32 UNLV jersey retired in 1995. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 1988 and played for Atlanta, Detroit, Portland, Charlotte/New Orleans and Orlando in the NBA.
