Army 66, Vassar 49
Julian Simmons scored 19 points and Army put away Vassar 66-49 with a strong second half Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Senior Jeremy Hence added a career-high 18 points and Ella Ellis had 12 points for Army, which ended a two-game home losing streak. Vassar has lost 24 straight games, dating back to the third game of last season.
Leading 35-30 at halftime, Army opened the second half with a 13-4 run. Simmons scored six points during the stretch and Army led 48-34 with 13:49 remaining in the game. The lead never dipped below 11 points after that.
The Black Knights scored 25 points off 23 Vassar turnovers and converted 20 offensive rebounds into 16 points. The Black Knights made only 38.5 percent of their field goal attempts on 25 of 65 shooting.
John Donnelly and Caleb McGraw each scored 12 points to lead Vassar.
