Arkansas State rolls past South Alabama 85-61

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) Melvin Johnson, III, scored 24 points and Arkansas State dominated the second half to defeat South Alabama 85-61 Thursday.
Johnson hit 8 of 10 shots, including 6 of 7 3-pointers for the Red Wolves (14-8, 7-4 Sun Belt), who led 35-28 at the half. Kirk Van Slyke added 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Augustine Rubit scored 23 for the Jaguars (7-17, 1-10), who have lost six straight and 12 of their last 13.
Johnson had two 3's in an 18-0 run in the first half that put Arkansas State up 22-12. He had 16 points in the second half.

The Red Wolves shot 52.8 percent for the game, making 18 of 28 shots in the second half. They ended up making 11 of 23 treys and 18 of 18 from the foul line.
