Marshawn Powell scored 19 points as Arkansas won Mike Anderson's first game as coach 83-63 over South Carolina-Upstate on Friday night.

Rickey Scott added 11 points for the Razorbacks (1-0), who opened the game 10 of 11 shooting and pulled away late for the season-opening win over the Spartans (0-1).

It was Anderson's first regular-season contest at Arkansas since serving as the school's interim coach for two games following former coach Nolan Richardson's firing in 2002.

Richardson was in attendance to watch his former longtime assistant, who left Missouri in March to return to the school where he was an assistant for 17 seasons.
