Tim Ambrose led Albany (N.Y.) in scoring, rebounding and assists Sunday as the Great Danes defeated New Hampshire 59-44 Sunday in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

Ambrose had 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists as Albany (8-8) broke a two-game losing streak and sent the Wildcats (6-7) to their fifth loss in six games.

Winning the conference opener was big for the Great Danes, who had lost 21 of their previous 24 league contests.

Tyrone Conley led New Hampshire with 15 points, but made only 5 of 15 shots from the field, including 4 of 13 on 3-point tries. The Wildcats shot 14 of 45 (31.1 percent) from the field and a woeful 4 of 16 from the free-throw line (25 percent).
