Abilene Christian beats Lamar 80-71 behind Franklin's 27

ABILENE, Texas (AP) Jaylen Franklin scored 27 points with a season-high three 3-pointers, Jaren Lewis added 12 and Abilene Christian beat Lamar 80-71 on Saturday.

The Wildcats (9-12, 4-4 Southland) led 39-29 at halftime behind Franklin's 12 points and pulled further ahead with a 16-8 run, leading 55-37 after Franklin's dunk with 13:40 to go.

The Cardinals gained on a 10-2 run then closed to within 77-70 on Nick Garth's jump shot with 45 seconds left, but the Wildcats made three more free throws in the final 40 seconds.

Franklin grabbed eight rebounds and had six assists and five steals for the Wildcats, who shot 52 percent and were 9 of 22 from beyond the arc to the Cardinals' 2 of 8.

Dorian Chatman scored a season-high 24 points and Garth added 19 for Lamar (10-11, 2-7), which has lost four straight.
