BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Light welterweight boxer Nick Casal's comeback is on hold after his opponent, Shakha Moore, failed his pre-fight physical.
The two were supposed to square off at the Niagara Falls Conference and Events Center on Thursday in what was to be Casal's first fight since October 2011. Casal (22-4-1) was nearly clubbed to death by a crowbar-wielding attacker in May 2012.
Promoter Mercedes Vazquez Simmons says she is already planning to have Casal fight in early May.
Ray Casal, the fighter's father and trainer, learned of the failed physical Tuesday. He had then arranged to have his son fight Marlon Lewis, who was also on the card. Lewis, however, was also denied a license to fight by the New York Athletic Commission.
