England's Amir Khan will put his lightweight title belt on the line in a championship fight against Lamont Peterson in the American boxer's hometown of Washington, D.C.

Khan takes on No. 1 contender Peterson on Dec. 10 following his 140-pound unification win in July over American veteran Zab Judah in Las Vegas.

Peterson is considered the top challenger to Olympic silver medalist Khan, who has a record of 26-1 with 18 knockouts. The 24-year-old fighter is making his sixth title defense.

The 27-year-old Peterson is 29-1-1 with 15 KOs and is getting his second shot at the title after losing a decision to Timothy Bradley in 2009.
