UTA women’s hoops coach steps down

University of Texas at Arlington women’s basketball coach Samantha Morrow has stepped down as coach.

Morrow, who took over as the coach before the 2007-2008 season, made the decision after she was informed by athletic director Jim Baker that her contract would not be renewed following the season. Assistant coach Karen Blair will take over as the head coach for the remainder of the season.

The Mavericks are 4-18 this season, including 0-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.

“Samantha has been a valuable member of the UT Arlington community during her time here,” Baker said in a statement. “We thank her for her contributions to the women’s basketball program and the university. We wish her all the best.”

UTA went to the WNIT in the 2009 under Morrow and made the conference tournament in three of her first five years.

Before taking the UTA job, Morrow was a high school coach in Mansfield. She guided the Lady Tigers to four consecutive state titles.
