Rangers bring up Phil Klein for bullpen help

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers added some bullpen depth by recalling right-hander Phil Klein from Triple-A Round Rock and sending Anthony Bass to Triple A to make room.

The Rangers used both Bass and Wandy Rodriguez in relief Sunday and needed a pitcher who could give them multiple innings.

Klein hasn’t pitched for Round Rock since July 17 when he went five innings. Bass has a 4.35 ERA for Texas and is second in the American League in relief innings with 51 2/3.

Texas also designated right-hander Ross Ohlendorf for assignment. Ohlendorf was with Round Rock on a rehab assignment with a strained right groin. Ohlendorf pitched in eight games for Texas, going 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA. The Rangers now have 10 days to trade, release or outright Ohlendorf to the minor leagues.
