DALLAS — Neither the TCU Horned Frogs nor quarterback Trevone Boykin will sneak up on anyone this season after a breakout 2014 campaign.
Boykin wasn’t even named the starter until just before the 2014 season began. Now he’s the reigning Big 12 offensive player of the year and finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting last season.
He hasn’t rested on his success either. Head coach Gary Patterson said Boykin turned down opportunities to work with NFL quarterback gurus over the summer to focus on working with his teammates.
"I wasn’t surprised by his success but I think we were all surprised offensively because we just weren’t very good in the spring," Patterson said. "For the offense it’s about handling success and understanding winning in the most important thing. I’ve been very proud of him for the circuit he’s been on and how he’s handled everything. From everything I’ve seen to this point he’s handled everything very well."
