Rangers to honor Michael Young May 17

The Texas Rangers will honor Michael Young in a ceremony May 17 before the Rangers take on the Toronto Blue Jays.

Young, the team’s all-time hits leader, retired before the season began. Details of the ceremony will be announced at a later date. It’s slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. Among those making remarks will be Vernon Wells.

Young spent 11 full seasons with Texas after being acquired in a trade from Toronto. He was the team’s player of the year five times, a seven-time All Star and won the 2005 batting title. He leads the organization in games played, hits, runs, doubles, triples, total bases, at-bats and multi-hit games.
