Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell, who has been on staff at Oklahoma since 2008, has been fired, first reported by FOX’s Bruce Feldman.

He has been the co-offensive coordinator with Josh Heupel since 2010 and is also the team’s wide receivers coach.

The move is the first of what could be several staff changes for the Sooners as OU is coming off a disappointing 8-5 year where it returned a starting quarterback and was expected to make the college football final four.

OU lost to Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl, 40-6.

The Oklahomans’s Jason Kersey is reporting a source said the only Oklahoma assistant coaches with firm job security are running backs coach Cale Gundy, offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh and defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery.

Norvell has coached at Wisconsin, Iowa State, Nebraska and UCLA in college and with the Colts and Raiders in the NFL. Norvell and Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops played together at Iowa in the mid 1980s.
