Oklahoma DE has salty words for SEC ahead of Tennessee game
Oklahoma plays at Tennessee on Saturday, and the Sooners have been trying to prepare properly.
The Sooners will be playing in front of the largest crowd in Oklahoma team history, bracing for 102,455 Volunteer fans to be rowdy at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
So, to try to simulate some of the crowd noise, the Sooner staff has been blaring "Rocky Top," the Tennessee fight song, repeatedly over the speakers at Sooner practices.
Eric Striker, OU’s All-Big 12 linebacker, had a few thoughts about the upcoming game. Here’s a quick Q-and-A with Striker after Tuesday’s practice:
Q: What do you think about "Rocky Top"?
A: "I don’t know nothing about it; I’ve really never heard it. The coaches are out here saying it, but I don’t really give a damn about it at all. I don’t really care.
"What, do they play it the whole damn time or what? OK. So are you saying it’s going to get stuck in my head?"
Q: Are you aware of (Jalen) Hurd and (Alvin) Kamara?
A: "I’m aware of Hurd. He’s a running back, just like any running back; he can get tackled. He can get hit. I don’t think nothing special about him."
Q: Do you get jacked up for the SEC? You’ve beaten them two straight years.
A: (To the Tulsa World): "Yeah, man, I don’t know why people blow gas up their a** all the time. I don’t understand why, you know what I mean? It sucks. … I hope SEC players don’t let it go their heads because this is how you get beat. I look forward to it. Gas ’em up. Bring ’em back down to earth."
The Sooners are 1-0 this season after beating Akron 41-3. Tennessee won last week in Knoxville, beating Bowling Green 59-30.
