Kansas State earned 257 points and grabbed the No. 21 spot in the poll. Texas will open its season against North Texas ranked 24th.

Oklahoma got three first-place votes, the most of any team besides No. 1 Florida State. Oklahoma State opens the season in Arlington, Texas against the top-ranked Seminoles and West Virginia will take on No. 2 Alabama in Atlanta.

The Cowboys earned 56 points in the poll to rank 30th overall. TCU was right behind them at No. 31 with 54 points. Texas Tech garnered eight votes, the 42nd-most in the poll.

Coaches are selected to vote on a rotation, and only half the coaches in college football vote each year. Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, TCU’s Gary Patterson, Baylor’s Art Briles, Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops and Texas’ Charlie Strong will represent the Big 12 in this year’s poll.
