Former Mavericks, Thunder forward Caron Butler retires

Former Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Caron Butler retired on Tuesday after 16 seasons in the NBA.

Butler made the announcement via an article he wrote for The Player’s Tribune:

It was 16 years ago when I arrived in Miami to start my NBA career. Back then if you’d told me I was gonna play for nine different teams, for more than a decade and a half, I’d have a look on my face as indescribable as my mom’s on the plane that day

But here I am. It’s been a great ride and truly a blessing. But everything runs its course, even good things. Today, I’m retiring from the NBA.

Butler won a NBA championship as a member of the Mavericks in 2011, but did not get to play in the playoffs after rupturing his right patella tendon earlier in the season.

Butler was a member of the 2014 Oklahoma City Thunder team that reached the Western Conference Finals.

Dallas tweeted a message to Butler Tuesday afternoon on his retirement.
