Dez Bryant: ‘My confidence is over the roof’

Although the Dallas Cowboys’ first-team offense managed only six points and 110 yards on 32 first-half plays against the Dolphins Saturday night in Miami, Dez Bryant didn’t seem to be too discouraged.

"I feel like we did good," Bryant said. "We want to be better. I was telling the guys on the sideline this only comes around once a year, make the most of it. You got to be hungry, you have to want it. And I think that’s what we’re doing."

Bryant was on the field for the Cowboys’ first four series, finishing with four catches for 32 yards on five targets. Bryant caught the only incompletion thrown his direction, but he was unable to get both feet down in bounds on the diving attempt.

Since it’s highly unlikely that Bryant will play in Thursday’s preseason finale, the Pro Bowl wide receiver will finish the preseason with seven receptions on eight targets for 91 yards and a touchdown.

"The preseason gets very frustrating," Bryant said, "knowing that you’re not going to be playing that much."

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo played the fifth and final offensive series of the first half even though Bryant did not.

"Tony, man, he’s a true competitor," Bryant said. "That’s what a lot of people don’t know. He wants it. He wants to be in, and he fought to stay in on that drive when I came out. I came out on that drive and I was hot … because we only had three [on the scoreboard].

"Somehow, someway they let him go in. That’s what I’m talking about. That’s just the fight, the dog and the hunger, man. When he does it, it makes everyone else want to do it. That’s how a team becomes explosive and unstoppable."

So after only six offensive series in two games, is Bryant ready for San Francisco in less than two weeks?

"We’re ready for anything that’s thrown in our face," Bryant said. "My confidence is over the roof when I get on the field."
