Austin bookstore pokes fun at Aggies
Who said people in Austin have forgotten about their longtime rival Texas A&M?
That’s certainly not the case at the University Co-op, which has a massive store just off campus in Austin.
The University Co-op posted this on its Instagram account Wednesday after Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel announced his decision to go to the NFL.
Poor Aggies is in reference to a cheer Texas fans used to make when the two schools played each other in football. The two schools have not played each since A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC before the 2012 season. There are no plans for a game between the two as of now.
What makes the Co-op picture funny is that it also serves as a reminder to Texas and departed head coach Mack Brown of what could have been. The picture was taken at a Texas camp. Manziel originally wanted to go to Texas but the Longhorns opted not to recruit him as a quarterback.
While the schools don’t play, the sniping between the two hasn’t stopped.
When the Longhorns struggled at the beginning of the 2013 season, a College Station bookstore was selling maroon "Keep Mack" shirts.
