Braves' Adonis Garcia undergoes finger surgery, expected to miss two months

Adonis Garcia, who has started 37 games at third for the Braves this season, was hitting .247/.282/.351.

The Braves are expected to be without Adonis Garcia until August as the team announced Wednesday that the third baseman underwent finger surgery.

The procedure was performed Monday to repair ligament damage in Garcia's left ring finger and he will miss approximately two months.

Garcia, 32, was placed on the 10-day disabled list June 7, a move that came just five days after his return from a two-week DL stint for Achilles tendinitis.

Garcia seized the third base job in 2015, and hit 24 home runs through his first two MLB season. But he has struggled in 2016, hitting .247/.282/.351 while making 37 starts at third. Those are the worst numbers of his three-year career and Garcia's wRC+ of 66 has dropped in all three of his years, going from 112 in 2015 to 90 last season.

In his absence, the Braves should get an extended look at Rio Ruiz at third.

The 23-year-old is hitting .209/.312/.343 through 77 plate appearances, but hit his second home run of the season in Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Nationals.
