NARRATOR: Leipzig and Wolfsburg were looking to salvage their respective seasons and conquer their nerves after recent jitters. Timo Werner needed a goal after five league games without one. Leipzig needed a win to boost their European qualification hopes.

Wolfsburg were in the relegation playoff spot after back-to-back defeats. They fell behind on 24 minutes, Jean-Kévin Augustin teeing up the impressive Ademola Lookman. The 20-year-old Englishman has really caught the eye since arriving on loan from Everton. This was his third Bundesliga goal, his first on home soil.

That goal stunned the visitors. Further damage was done nine minutes later. The Wolfsburg defense collapsed, and Werner took full advantage. His 20th goal in all competitions, a man who could lead the line for Germany at the World Cup. A poor clearance from Felix Uduokhai, a calm finish from Werner.

2-0 at the break. Leipzig fans regaining the feel-good factor. But they were given a scare early in the second half as Renato Steffen found Daniel Didavi. A goal in the 47th minute. Bruno Labbadia rewarded for adopting a more offensive tactical mindset at halftime.

But that joy was short lived, as more mistakes cost the visitors dearly. Uduokhai again at fault, and Werner teed up Lookman. An ice-cool finish, the third Leipzig goal arriving just five minutes after Wolfsburg had made it 2-1.

Wolfsburg had also conceded 3 goals in their last two games against Gladbach and Hamburg, and there was more suffering to endure. A brutally efficient finish from Augustin on 63 minutes, the 20-year-old Frenchman's seventh Bundesliga goal in his debut campaign.

So Wolfsburg will go into their final game against Koln in the playoff spot. Leipzig is still in with a chance of securing a top-four finish.
