ANNOUNCER: Former coaching classmates, now rising stars, on the sidelines as Julian Nagelsmann faced Domenico Tedesco. It was Tedesco's Schalke who began better. In 11 minutes, Thilo Kehrer's second career goal. That's nine headers conceded by Hoffenheim's defense so far, a weakness, clearly exploited.

It was nearly 2 three minutes later. Hoffenheim, over playing playing at the back, and the ball broke the pacey Swiss, Breel Embolo. His neat finish-- but the celebrations cut short by the video assistant in Colon, who'd seen Embolo a fraction offside in the build up. And the goal, correctly, called off by the officials.

No matter, Embolo did score his goal on 28 minutes. Again, Hoffenheim were too lax defensively. Kevin Vogt's pocket, picked. Embolo will never score a more simple goal than this one, his second this season. A first half feast for Schalke's fans for sure. And Schalke, strong in the second half too.

Great skills by Guido Burgstaller and almost a magnificent third goal for the team to put the game to bed. The striker's improvisation, superb. The shot, just a fraction beyond the post. It stayed 2-0.

But missed chances left the door open to Hoffenheim. And on 78 minutes, it was back to a one goal margin. Andrej Kramaric, heading in his fourth goal in 3 matches from a superb Pavel Kaderabek cross. Game on with 12 to play. As Hoffenheim pressed to try and save the game, there was space left at the back which almost let in Leon Goretzka later on. His shot, flashing wide. It ended 2-1, Tedesco's day and Schalke's day.
