ANNOUNCER: Two teams that were sitting pretty halfway up the table faced off on match day nine. Augsburg's coach Manuel Baum saved his team from relegation last season, whereas visitors Hannover bounced back to the top flight this term. The home side, Augsburg, were gritty right from the get-go and could have made it 1-0 after just three minutes had been played, but Caiuby elected to use his left instead of his stronger right foot, denying him his third goal of the campaign.
It was all Augsburg in the first period who had wave after wave of attacking chances. And on 33 minutes, a Michael Gregoritsch shot was horribly deflected by Julian Korb. Over Philipp Tschauner's head for the deserved lead, just the fifth conceded by Hannover this term.
Augsburg have never lost a Bundesliga game at home after leading at half time and former German chancellor and Hannover fan Gerhard Schroder didn't look too confident. But in the second period, Augsburg sat back and allowed the visitors to create and they carved out an equalizer on 77 minutes, courtesy of substitute Niclas Fullkrug, who scored his last Bundesliga goal exactly five years ago. Augsburg, though, were paying for their complacency.
Hannover should have been two up with eight minutes remaining, but new signee Jonathas, who scored on his debut, shot straight at a keeper, Marwin Hitz.
Augsburg hadn't won any of their last 11 matches against promoted teams and wouldn't do it this time either. Just a minute before the final whistle, a spirited second half performance gave Fullkrug his second of the season. Three of his Bundesliga goals now have been put past Augsburg.
A huge Hannover victory, Augsburg winless in four in a row. Augsburg 1, Hannover 2.
