Wolfsburg signs Denmark defender Kjaer
Denmark defender Simon Kjaer has joined Wolfsburg from Italian
club Palermo on a four-year contract.
The Bundesliga club’s announcement Thursday of 21-year-old
Kjaer’s arrival came just a week after it signed Germany defender
Arne Friedrich from Hertha Berlin.
Kjaer joined Palermo from Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2008. He
said the move to Wolfsburg offers him “a chance to play at a top
club – I think this is the right step for me now.”
Wolfsburg is embarking on its first season under English coach
Steve McClaren. The team was the Bundesliga champion in the 2008-09
season but had one of the division’s worst defensive records last
term, conceding 58 goals in 34 matches.
