West Brom beats Everton 4-1
West Bromwich Albion ended a miserable run in the Premier League
by beating 10-man Everton 4-1 on Saturday.
Paul Scharner and Chris Brunt gave West Brom a 2-0 lead at
Scharner met a corner from Brunt in the 16th with a strong
header past Everton’s American goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Northern Ireland international Brunt, returning from a thigh
injury, curled in an impressive free kick from 25 yards for West
Brom’s second after 26 minutes.
Tim Cahill brought Everton back into the game with his eighth
goal of the season three minutes before half time off a corner from
Leighton Baines .
Somen Tchoyi made it 3-1 in the 76th before an own goal from
Everton’s Sylvain Distin – off a strike from Youssouf Mulumbu – put
the game out of doubt in the 87th.
Everton captain Mikel Arteta was sent off in the 59th for
stamping on Gonzalo Jara.
Mulumbu was also dismissed in the 89th for two yellow card
offences – the first for celebrating in the crowd and then for a
bad tackle on Steven Pienaar.
West Brom had just one point in its previous five league
matches. Everton is now without a win in five games.
