Watch this Navy officer surprise his mom at a USMNT match after 16 months away

Evan Jones is a Navy Officer who has been stationed in Japan for the last 16 months. When he got the chance to come home, he told his mom that he would return in September, but he never told her when. And he, along with his brother Ryan, knew that she would be at the United States' World Cup qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago in Jacksonville on Tuesday night. After all, she's a huge U.S. Soccer fan.

So they came up with a plan — instead of telling the family when he would be coming home, they were going to surprise mom.

Jones was wearing a bandana over his face and singing along with his American Outlaw friends at the pregame tailgate, then when his mom got near, he took the bandana off and made a beeline to hug mom.

Unsurprisingly, there were tears. Back together for the first time in 16 months, and a couple hours later, taking in the U.S. match together.
