Watch Danny Drinkwater lace a thunderbolt of a volley to put Leicester 2-0 up on Liverpool

Leicester City's controversial decision to sack manager Claudio Ranieri meant all eyes were on the Foxes as they hosted Liverpool on Monday in the first match of the post-Ranieri era. With relegation threatening and a formidable Liverpool side ahead of them, Leicester had some serious questions to answer, and for the first 45 minutes they answered in resounding fashion.

Leicester's opener was a vintage 2015/16 Vardy goal, with the England striker timing his run in behind perfectly to run onto an Albrighton through ball and fire past Simon Mignolet.

The second was anything but vintage, as Danny Drinkwater doubled Leicester's lead 12 minutes later with a gorgeous looping volley that flew past a helpless Mignolet to find sanctuary in the side of Liverpool's net.

It was the ideal statement for the team to make following the club's huge decision, and it was as emphatic of a message as Drinkwater could have delivered.

Leicester's decision to let Ranieri go seems to be vindicated, at least in the short term. The Foxes came out with a renewed vigor against Liverpool, and were rewarded with two deserved goals. If Drinkwater's goal means anything for the future, things may be looking up for the defending champs.
