Vasco set to sign former Brazil playmaker Juninho

Vasco says former Brazil playmaker Juninho will join the club

after his contract with Qatar’s Al Gharafa ends in June.

Vasco president Roberto Dinamite says Juninho has agreed to sign

with the club in his return to Brazilian football after more than

10 years playing abroad.

Dinamite says the 36-year-old Juninho wants to end his career

with Vasco, the club where he thrived before joining France’s Lyon

in 2001. He was playing in Qatar since 2009.

Juninho was a member of Brazil’s squad in the 2006 World Cup and

scored a goal in the team’s 4-1 victory against Japan in the group

stage. Brazil was eliminated by France in the quarterfinals.

Vasco is a four-time Brazilian champion, but it hasn’t won the

league title since 2000.
