FC Sion urged to settle dispute at CAS
UEFA has asked Swiss club FC Sion to settle their legal dispute once and for all at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Sion has breached football’s rules by launching a series of civil court actions against UEFA since being expelled from the Europa League last month for fielding ineligible players.
Sion also filed a criminal complaint against UEFA President Michel Platini when his organization’s independent judicial bodies ignored a local court’s interim ruling.
UEFA has now offered Sion a fast-track case at world sport’s highest court to end the dispute ”in a common spirit.”
UEFA says its executive committee met Monday without Platini to study the standoff, and concluded that only CAS has authority to pronounce a verdict.
Celtic replaced Sion in the Europa League group stage despite losing 3-1 over the two legs.
