Tottenham's Son Heung-Min the target of racist abuse by Millwall fans

Tottenham attacker Son Heung-Min was the target of racist abuse from a number of away Millwall fans during their FA Cup loss to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

The 24-year-old South Korean international was targeted by abuse every time he touched the ball near the away end. Fans shouted discriminatory chants, including ‘DVD’ and ‘he’s selling three for a fiver’, whenever he came into possession.

Despite the terrible reception, Son didn't let it affect his performance, scoring a hat trick as Tottenham smashed Millwall 6-0.

This isn't the first time Millwall have been in trouble for such abuse, either. Leicester City complained to the FA about “abuse, provocation and intimidation” of their players, fans and staff in their FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Millwall just last month. Back in 2005, Millwall fans also directed similarly racist chants at Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Seol Ki-Hyeon.

Expecting trouble from Millwall supporters, Tottenham and the police took a number of steps to prevent violence at White Hart Lane before the match. Police were present around the stadium six hours before kick-off, and Tottenham closed their club shop to prevent it from being targeted. They also removed advertising boards from the away end, and stewards responsible for separating Millwall and Spurs fans wore orange hard hats for safety.

Millwall were the first club to be charged by the FA over racist behavior by supporters in 2004 after Liverpool’s Djimi Traore was targeted by monkey noises. Now, they'll likely face action from the FA once again for their supporters' treatment of Son.
